Dermal Fillers

How do dermal fillers work?

Dermal fillers, such as Juvéderm®, Restylane by Galderma, Voluma, Vollure by Allergen, Belotero and Radiesse by Merz, are injectables made with hyaluronic acid.  Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in your body responsible for keeping your skin hydrated and plump. Injecting the gel-like substance into targeted areas in the face adds volume under the skin, visibly reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. In addition to smoothing the skin, dermal fillers can also be applied to improve facial symmetry, add volume to sunken, hollow cheeks and temples, contour the face and fill acne scars.

During your dermal filler treatment, the targeted area is thoroughly cleaned and then a topical anesthetic is applied, if needed. Many dermal injectables contain lidocaine, a local numbing medication, which helps to reduce discomfort during the treatment. During the treatment, you may experience a very mild pinching or pressure sensation while the product is injected. Next, your medical provider will inject a precise amount of dermal filler into the targeted area under the skin.

To maximize results, using medical-grade skincare products may be recommended post-treatment.

How do I know which dermal filler is right for me?

Dermal filler treatments are unique and tailored to the individual. With so many dermal treatment options on the market, selecting the right one for your needs may seem challenging. This is why it is important to partner with an experienced medical provider who can evaluate your specific aesthetic goals. During a dermal filler consultation your providers will carefully evaluate your needs to determine which dermal filler is best to deliver your desired results.

Are dermal filler injections safe?

Juvaderm® and Restylane are hyaluronic acid gel dermal fillers that are approved by the FDA and generally considered safe. Side effects to dermal fillers are mild and injection-site related. You may experience short-term bruising and swelling, but this will subside after a couple of days following the treatment.

How long does an appointment for dermal fillers take?

Appointments typically last between thirty minutes to an hour. Patients can return to their normal daily activities after the treatment.

Is there any downtime after an injection?

Dermal fillers are a quick, easy treatment with little downtime involved. You can easily come in on your lunch hour and then continue on with the rest of your day.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Results of dermal fillers depend on the type of dermal filler used and area treated, but typically last between one to two years. Unlike permanent surgical options to treat wrinkles and smooth the skin, dermal fillers are temporary and require less commitment.

What areas can be treated?

Dermal fillers are FDA-approved to treat a wide variety of facial areas, including the lips, nasolabial folds (the crease that runs from the bottom of your nose to mouth), marionette lines, smokers’ lines, under the eyes, cheeks and jawline.

How long until you can see the results?

Results are immediate, so you can see the effects directly following the treatment. However, dermal fillers may take up to four weeks to fully settle before you can see the full results. We recommend patients stay hydrated and drink plenty of water following the dermal filler treatment, as hyaluronic acid is water-binding, meaning that it will enhance the effect of the filler.

How do I know if I am a candidate?

Unlike other invasive facial augmentation options for men and women, dermal fillers can begin with a mild enhancement and increase over time if needed, making it an aesthetic treatment with little commitment. Dermal fillers are effective for patients who have static wrinkles and/or lines, lost facial volume, acne scars, asymmetrical features or desire facial contouring. Dermal fillers have not been studied on women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or under the age of 18.

During a complimentary consultation, you meet with our expert Medical Staff where we go over your medical history, talk about your concerns and let you know what type of results you can get from dermal fillers, including which type of dermal filler is recommended for you.

What can I expect after the treatment?

  • After your treatment, you may have some redness, swelling, and mild bruising.  This will normally last less than seven days.  Cold compresses may be used immediately and up to 24 hours after the treatment to reduce swelling.

  • After 24 hours post-treatment, if any bruising has occurred, warm compresses may be applied to the affected areas to expedite the resolution of bruising. Avoid touching the treated area within six hours following treatment.  After that, the area can be gently washed.

  • Sunbathing and cold outdoor activities should be avoided until any redness or swelling disappears.

  • Avoid exercise and alcohol for six hours after treatment.

  • Avoid ibuprofen, aspirin, Advil, or vitamin E for 24 hours after injection.

Neuromodulators

What is the difference between Botox, Xeomin and Dysport?

Botox, Xeomin and Dysport are all considered different types of injectable neurotoxins that can help smooth and reduce wrinkles without the use of anesthesia. All three products are FDA-approved and considered safe to treat the appearance of wrinkles in the forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet and more. However, the manufacturing process of these three neurotoxins are unique to each product, which lends itself to some subtle differences. During a consultation, our expert medical providers will review your medical history, discuss your concerns and recommend which neurotoxin is right for you.

How does Botox work?

During your appointment, your provider will review your treatment areas and how many units of Botox are needed. Your medical provider will use small micro-needles to inject Botox into the desired facial muscles. The neurotoxin temporarily weakens the muscle so wrinkles are smoothed.

At LushRX Aesthetics, we take a comprehensive approach to your facial aesthetics and anti-aging strategies. By combining neurotoxins and dermal fillers, we can address multiple areas of the face simultaneously, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles while restoring lost volume.

What do I need to know before my Botox procedure?

Typically, appointments take no longer than 30 minutes to complete, depending on the areas you are treating. To minimize the risk of bruising, we recommend avoiding anti-inflammatory supplements, such as Vitamin E, flaxseed oil and fish oil before your appointment.

What do I need to know after my Botox procedure?

Botox requires very little downtime. After your procedure, you can resume the rest of your day’s activities. Most people will have “Botox bumps” at the injection sites, which are small bumps that look similar to a mosquito bite. These bumps go away on their own and only last approximately 10-15 minutes after your Botox injections. We recommend that you let the injection sites heal on their own and not massage the area to reduce swelling. After your treatment, we also recommend refraining from exercise, receiving a facial or massage for at least 24 hours.

How long does Botox last?

You can begin to see results as quickly as three days after your appointment, but it takes fourteen days to see the maximum skin smoothing results of Botox. How long your Botox treatment lasts depends on a number of factors. While individual results may vary, typically you’ll be able to enjoy the look of your Botox results for approximately 3-4 months.

Will I still be able to make facial expressions?

That’s up to you. Whether you want to have a natural more rested and rejuvenated look,  the “frozen” look, or anything in between, our medical providers will deliver the results you desire.

What other conditions do neurotoxins treat?

Neurotoxins are used in other cosmetic procedures, including lip flips, a non-surgical procedure that enhances the shape and volume of your lips without the use of dermal fillers. During the procedure, a neurotoxin is injected into the upper lip so the muscles in the lip are relaxed, essentially flipping your lip upward.

How do I know if I am a candidate?

If you have moderate to severe facial wrinkles that you would like to improve, a neurotoxin procedure may be right for you. With injectables such as Botox, you can begin with a mild enhancement and increase the results over time. It is essential to consult with an experienced medical provider that can evaluate your specific aesthetic goals to determine which neurotoxin procedure is a good fit.

Are there any side effects to Botox?

The most common side effects are minimal swelling and bruising at the Botox injection sites. There is a very low chance of infection.

Can I get Botox while pregnant?

Botox should not be used on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Laser Hair Removal

ARE THERE ANY PRECAUTIONS YOU SHOULD TAKE BEFORE OR AFTER TREATMENT?

Yes! Keep in mind the following to ensure you get the desired results from your treatment:

  • Avoid the sun six weeks before and after your treatment, or until your provider allows it.

  • The skin should not be tanned at all when having laser treatment.

  • If you have a history of cold sores, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be recommended.

Discuss the results and improvements you expect to achieve with your provider. Together, you can decide if laser hair removal is the best option for you.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT DURING LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

Laser hair removal patients will have a one-on-one consultation with a master-trained laser technician and registered nurse prior to treatment. The ALMA Soprano Platinum laser has a contact cooling handpiece which allows laser energy to be directed to the hair root while protecting and cooling the surrounding skin for a greater degree of efficacy, safety, and comfort. It will be necessary for the laser hair removal patient and technician to wear appropriate eye protection, and a thin layer of cold gel will be applied to the area being treated to protect the skin.

A high repetition rate of short pulses is delivered to the area of unwanted hair. A sweeping motion technique is used to ensure full coverage. Your full treatment may be done on the same day or up to two weeks later, depending on how your skin reacts to the laser. Most patients experience little discomfort at the treatment site because of the dynamic cooling device.

The degree of discomfort varies, depending on each person’s pain threshold.

WHAT RESULTS CAN YOU EXPECT?

Patients may experience a change in hair density after as little as one treatment.* To achieve total hair removal, our protocol includes six treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart. This will guarantee your full satisfaction. To maintain your results, we recommend annual touch-ups as needed.
